Please provide your feedback on the Large Language Criteria

The following are suggestions for you to give feedback for this question:

There are many Maltese people in Australia. They were born in Malta or their parents or grandparents were born in Malta.

We continue to hold a strong connection to our country, and we also hold a strong connection to our community here in Australia

Like other Maltese people, I would like more services in Maltese on SBS Radio.

Please provide your feedback on the High Needs Language Criteria

The following are suggestions for you to give feedback for this question:

Maltese older people need Maltese language services. They rely on SBS to provide important information about what is happening in their community.

Many younger Maltese are now learning Maltese and want more Maltese programs. They use SBS Maltese Radio to help them connect to the community and learn more about their culture and about Malta.

SBS Radio is very important in providing language services for us because it helps reach everyone in the community about what is going in Malta and what is happening in Australia too.

Just because the Maltese community is an established and ageing community, it doesn’t mean that SBS should not consider the needs and interests of those who are born here but are Maltese by descent. It is also important for SBS to give some priority to ageing communities who rely on their mother-tongue for important, safe and accurate information, even if they say they can understand English in the Census.

Please provide your feedback on the other factors SBS may take into account in the final selection criteria

The following are suggestions for you to give feedback for this question:

We only have a few community Maltese programs and they do not have the resources that SBS has.

We need SBS to provide more Maltese programs on radio and TV.

Many older Maltese people do not access the internet so we need free-to-air programs. Not just news, but other social information and entertainment on radio, and series and movies in Maltese on TV would be good.

Don’t rely only on the Census for information about who speaks Maltese and if people understand English.

SBS should also consider how many people say they are of Maltese background.
