About the Maltese Concert Band NSW
The Maltese Concert Band NSW – formerly Our Lady Queen of Peace Maltese Band NSW – is the first Maltese concert band in Australia, and the only one in NSW. We play at numerous events and feasts throughout the year, celebrated by the Maltese and wider communities. Established in 1976, we are proud of our contribution to Sydney’s rich cultural diversity by maintaining the tradition of Maltese bands.
New members are always welcome. If you are interested in joining the Band, please contact us. Membership for musicians is open to anyone with suitable playing proficiency in relevant instruments. These include:
- Woodwind instruments including Clarinets, Flutes, Oboes, Piccolos and Saxophones;
- Brass instruments including Baritones, Basses, Euphoniums, Horns, Trombones,
Trumpets and Tubas; and - Percussion instruments
Before joining, we invite prospective playing members to attend a few rehearsals to get a feel for the Band and its music.
If you are new to music or have not begun to play an instrument, we would still like to welcome you to the Band. Private tuition is available through the Band’s Music Tuition Program or could also be arranged through other means such as school music programs or private tuition by another tutor. Instruments may also be available to be borrowed for use with the band.
Rehearsals are held every Monday evening from 7.30pm to approximately 9.30pm, except for public holidays and a break over Christmas and the new year. They are held at La Valette Social Centre, 175 Walters Rd Blacktown.
